Jackson–Hinds County Library System
Proposed Update to Internet Safety Policy (CIPA Compliance)
The Board of Trustees of the Jackson–Hinds County Library System will hold a public hearing to receive comments regarding proposed updates to the Library’s Internet Safety Policy, as required by the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), 47 U.S.C. §254(h)(5) and (6).
The purpose of this hearing is to provide reasonable public notice and opportunity for public comment prior to the adoption of the updated Internet Safety Policy governing the use of the Library’s computers and internet access.
The proposed policy addresses:
- Access by minors to inappropriate matter on the Internet
- The safety and security of minors when using electronic mail, chat rooms, and other forms of direct electronic communications
- Unauthorized access, including “hacking,” and other unlawful online activities
- Unauthorized disclosure, use, and dissemination of personal identification information regarding minors
- Measures designed to restrict minors’ access to materials harmful to minors, including the operation of technology protection measures (internet filtering)
